Vineyard Tours in Florida

Muscadine grapes (or scuppernongs as they are sometimes called) are native to Florida and were first used for wine-making by the French Huguenots and early Spanish settlers nearly 100 years before wine was made in California.  They can grow as big as golf balls and ripen individually rather than in bunches over a period of a few weeks in late August and into September. The grapes are grown at vineyards around Florida where one can visit for free tasting and a tour. Continue reading

Minivan 7 Seater versus 7 Seat SUV’s

Comparison of People Carrier versus 7 seat SUV.

The minivan 7-seater, or people carrier, is one of our most versatile vehicles for car hire in the USA.  These cars are usually quite low to the ground, whilst offering an upright driving position and the most space for luggage inside.  There is really no comparison with the 7-seat SUV’s which have much higher ground clearance, and therefore less luggage space in the boot.  All of the seats in the people carriers are full seats, suitable for adults.  In most cases the rear seats of the SUV’s are suitable only for children due to a lack of head clearance and leg room.  These seats are also situated in the luggage area, therefore reducing the available space again. Cool Convertibles

A red hot Ford Mustang convertible, driving down the Pacific Coast Highway in California, or Ocean Drive in Miami, Florida, and the wind through the hair is an iconic image that many renters have in mind when considering a convertible for their holiday car hire.

All of our suppliers have the Ford Mustang convertible within their fleets – prominently – this dream can become a reality. We can’t guarantee which model of any category you will receive, but as these car hire companies have invested in the Ford Mustang as the main car for the convertible, drivers with a dream have never had a better chance.

To increase the chances, you might like to consider selecting either Alamo, Dollar or Thrifty as the supplier. Until very recently Dollar and Thrifty had a 100% Mustang convertible fleet. Whilst this is no longer the case, they probably still have more Ford Mustangs than other suppliers.

Convertibles are not available from the northern states in the US, which is something to bear in mind when planning your trip. To drive a convertible along historical Route 66, you will need to start from the south-west.

Both Dollar and Alamo offer you the chance to choose your own car from those available at Choice locations such as:

  • Atlanta
  • Las Vegas
  • Orlando
  • Miami
  • Los Angeles
  • West Palm Beach
  • Fort Myers
  • Houston
  • Denver

Convertibles are not held in any numbers at hotel/downtown locations. To have a choice of vehicle, we would recommend using the airport for collection. These cars are not designed for 4 people to be equally comfortable. Likewise, there is not much room for luggage, so pack light!

Take advantage of a complimentary cruise shuttle when using the new location at 710 Mullet Road, for your cruise from Port Canaveral. One way rentals are free within the state of Florida so it is easy to collect your car at an airport and then drop it off here or vice versa. The opening hours at this location are 07.30 – 17.30 seven days a week.

Port Canaveral Tips

A regular traveller through the port has provided the following general tips:

  1. All Port Canaveral depots are small, desperately busy on embarkation/disembarkation days.
  2. Business is magnified for Alamo/National/Enterprise customers as the location is shared.
  3. All depots have limited facilities. Therefore the vehicles can come with limited fuel and are not the cleanest of vehicles.
  4. No fast check in or vehicle choice, just old-fashioned documentation, licence & credit card in return for keys.
  5. It is well worth dropping the family off with the luggage first. Have two copies of the boarding form and driver takes his passport.  Then the family can at least wait inside the air conditioned terminal for the driver to return.
  6. On return, let the driver hop off the shuttle bus first (without luggage), so he can get straight to the line.

Cruise guests often have quite a bit of luggage, so you may want to have a look at our vehicle guide to make sure you choose the right car for your trip.  Fleetguide
